This is the second year that the SERDP and ESTCP Symposium will be held as a virtual event. While we are eager to return to an in-person Symposium in the future, the 2021 virtual Symposium has an impressive lineup of researchers and technology developers who will share valuable insights to address the Department of Defense’s (DoD) energy and environmental challenges. SERDP and ESTCP are building upon last year’s virtual event to provide more opportunities for connection and discussion among attendees.

The opening plenary session on Monday, November 29 will feature an address from Mr. Richard Kidd, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Environment & Energy Resilience. Mr. Kidd oversees a variety of activities aimed at improving the environmental performance of installations and weapons systems and DoD climate resilience. Following his address, SERDP and ESTCP will announce the 2021 Project of the Year awards. Each award winner will provide brief remarks sharing their research accomplishments.

The Symposium will offer a variety of sessions to facilitate the exchange of cutting-edge research and ideas. There will be 20 technical sessions that consist of multiple presentations and live Q&A discussions with each speaker. There will also be 5 short courses covering a range of research topics and 2 short courses providing more guidance on how to work with SERDP and ESTCP. Attendees will be able to browse over 400 technical posters submitted by researchers as well.

This year, we will offer a few topical sessions on broader subjects. Topical sessions will follow a less formal, discussion-based format to provide more opportunities for attendees to collaborate and network. Lastly, attendees will have more tools within the virtual environment to message and chat with one another throughout the event.

The full descriptions, presentation titles and speakers for technical sessions and short courses are currently posted on the Symposium website. We look forward to seeing you virtually November 29 – December 3 for the 2021 Symposium!
