Wide area assessment (WAA) is a process for quickly and cost-effectively assessing 100% of a potentially contaminated site to identify areas of concentrated munitions use, such as target areas, for more detailed investigation. The WAA process can employ a number of technologies deployed singly or in combination. ESTCP conducted a WAA Pilot Program from 2005-2007 to demonstrate and evaluate the effectiveness of the individual technologies and an overall WAA process for site conditions ranging from simple to complex.
