DoD’s goal is to eliminate fluorinated compounds from firefighting formulations as soon as possible. Towards this end, projects were sought to either (1) develop an alternative formulation for use in Department of Defense (DoD) Class B (flammable liquid) fire-suppression operations in lieu of Aqueous Film Forming Foam (AFFF) in accordance with Interim Amendment 3 of MIL-PRF-24385F and (2) demonstrate and validate more environmentally sustainable (fluorine-free) fire suppression alternatives against current performance requirements outlined in MIL-PRF-24385F. Along with these listed efforts, 11-more proposals are currently under review for potential funding as of Jan-2020.
