At a recent award ceremony held by the Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Land and Emergency Management, an Intergovernmental Data Quality Task Force Team was awarded an EPA Bronze Medal for their work in developing a Quality Assurance Project Plan template to support the implementation of Geophysical Classification technologies developed by SERDP and ESTCP.

Pictured in the photo above is (from left) Greg Gervais from EPA; Nigel Simon, EPA; Jordan Adelson, the team lead; Maureen Sullivan, DASD (ESOH), Herb Nelson, SERDP and ESTCP; Tad Davis, PDASD (EI&E); Doug Maddox, a team member from EPA, and Barry Breen, the acting Assistant Administrator for OLEM.  Also recognized was Kevin Coats, Brian Jordan, Andy Schwartz, and Amy Walker from USACE and Ed Corl and Bryan Harre from the Navy.

The Quality Assurance Project Plan (QAPP) template guides contractors and project teams on the required systematic planning steps leading to detection of munitions items and other debris followed by the use of advanced sensors for geophysical classification. Where appropriate, the QAPP template highlights the recommended baseline requirements that are critical to a munitions investigation. Publication of this template and the establishment of the DoD Advanced Geophysical Classification Accreditation Program are the final two pieces in SERDP and ESTCP’s implementation strategy for these technologies.
