The ESTCP Energy and Water team attended the 2017 Energy Exchange held in Tampa, FL from August 15 to 17, 2017. The conference was attended by over 2,600 people representing federal agencies, energy technology/service companies, research institutes, academia and over 700 from DoD. Attendance was up again this year and the agenda was packed with great presentations, panels and discussions on a wide range of topics including Emerging Technologies, Fleet Management, Energy Planning, Cyber and Control System Technologies, Policy, Resilience for Mission Assurance and more.

At the trade show, the ESTCP booth was visited by several DoD installation Energy Managers, who shared their experiences with past ESTCP projects, provided ideas for future solicitation topics and expressed their interest in hosting future demonstrations. Several current Principle Investigators also stopped by to share updates on projects and highlight technology transfer opportunities realized at the Energy Exchange.

ESTCP was well represented throughout the Energy Exchange agenda with several presentations from current and past Principal Investigators including Anthony Colonnese from Ameresco with Julian Lamb from Paragon Robotics, Scot Duncan from Conservant Systems, Matt Brown from Simuwatt, Shawn Doyle from Otis Air National Guard Base, and Bryan Urban from Fraunhofer with Josef Mueller and Joe Milando from Cool Green Power. The Energy Exchange is a great venue for exposing these emerging technologies to end users, project integrators and energy professionals.

In addition to the presentations listed above, ESTCP Energy and Water Program Manager, Tim Tetreault, presented in the Federal Test Bed Programs session alongside Karma Sawyer from the Department of Energy’s Building Technology Office and Brian Gilligan from General Services Administration’s Proving Ground. This session was very well attended by installation/agency staff interested in demonstration results and hosting future projects and by technology companies wanting to learn how to participate in the programs.

Thank you to all who stopped by the ESTCP booth and provided valuable feedback on the program and we look forward to seeing you next August in Cleveland for the 2018 Energy Exchange.

As a quick reminder, ESTCP will be hosting its annual technical Symposium from November 28-30, 2017 at the Washington Hilton Hotel in Washington D.C. The 2017 Symposium will highlight SERDP and ESTCP’s recent efforts to enhance mission capabilities, reduce costs in times of increasing fiscal constraints, and improve environmental and energy performance. There will be 16 technical sessions, a poster session with more than 400 posters over two nights, and a number of short courses. Out of the 16 technical sessions, EW program will have three sessions covering the following topics – Microgrids, Advanced building components and Energy information and Cybersecurity. For additional information and to register, please visit the Symposium website at: http://www.symposium.serdp-estcp.org.
