ASETSDefense 2016: Sustainable Surface Engineering for Aerospace and Defense
Increased environmental and occupational safety and health regulations both in the United States and globally, are impacting the use of chromates, cadmium, and other chemicals in aerospace and defense surface treatments. As a result, the need for environmentally benign alternatives that meet or exceed the performance requirements of currently used materials is becoming increasingly acute.
In order to address these issues, SERDP and ESTCP are holding the 6th Workshop on Sustainable Surface Engineering for Aerospace and Defense at Shades of Green®, the Armed Forces Recreation Center at the Walt Disney World® Resort, Orlando, FL on December 6-8, 2016. As in prior workshops, the goal of ASETSDefense 2016 will be to exchange information between Department of Defense repair facilities, weapons system manufacturers, research organizations, and chemical and coating formulators concerning options, performance, and implementation of all types of alternatives.
This workshop will cover the topics listed below, addressing all aspects of alternative coatings and surface treatments, with emphasis on performance, service data, approvals and implementation of clean coatings:
- Aerospace and defense needs and approaches
- Cd and chromate replacement at Depots and OEMs
- Al, Mg, Be, chromate conversion, anodizing and sealing, new approaches
- Qualifying and implementing alternatives
- Approved alternatives and test requirements
- Hard chrome and wear coatings
- Brush plating, spray and other depot/field repair methods
- Cr-free paint systems and sealants
- Paint stripping, contamination control
A poster session and side meetings will be held on topics of particular importance to attendees with detailed discussions of the performance and implementation of new technologies. To register for the meeting, please see the link and reservation information below.
