This report assesses the availability, quality, and usefulness of two types of information to support assessments: (1) damage and fragility information, and (2) topographic, bathymetric, and infrastructure asset data. Mr. Ruben Prado and Mr. John Benfer of NAVAIR Jacksonville demonstrated that nanocrystalline cobalt-phosphorus (nCoP) meets the majority of acceptance criteria for coating quality, adhesion, fatigue, corrosion, hydrogen embrittlement, fluid compatibility, wear, and impact testing for a wide variety of applications. Based on testing to date, the team anticipates that nCoP will be widely specified per MIL-DTL-32502 as a hard chrome alternative. More

To help DoD comply with the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 mandate to conduct energy audits on 25% of covered facilities annually, ESTCP funded FirstFuel Software to show the impact of conducting “touchless” energy audits. Traditional energy audits involve experts who review building records, do a thorough hands-on assessment of building systems and compile a detailed report with recommendations to implement energy conservation measures.  More

Working concurrently on two ESTCP projects, Dr. Thomas McHugh of GSI Environmental Inc. and his team performed a field investigation to validate the use of compound-specific stable isotope analysis as a method to distinguish between vapor intrusion and indoor sources of VOCs, and developed a step-by-step protocol that can be used to provide an independent line of evidence to determine whether buildings are impacted by vapor intrusion. The team also investigated the use of on-site analysis using a portable gas chromatograph/mass spectrometer to allow users to understand the distribution of VOCs in real-time and support identification of the VOC source while in the field. More
