The Department of Defense (DoD) Sustainable Ranges Initiative (SRI) is a multi-tiered strategy designed to assist the efforts of military installations, particularly training and testing ranges, in working with partners at all levels to help ensure the sustainability of and access to vital DoD land and resources.

SERDP

DoD’s Strategic Environmental Research and Development Program (SERDP) and the Environmental Security Technology Certification Program (ESTCP) comprise the environmental research arm of the Department. These programs have already supported much research in the sustainable ranges field.

The Workshop on Southeast Regional Planning & Sustainability (SERPS) was co-sponsored by two organizations within DoD’s Office of the Secretary – the Sustainable Ranges Initiative (SRI) and the Strategic Environmental Research and Development Program (SERDP).     

This cutting-edge workshop brought together academics along with the military and other key stakeholders and experts to advance collaborative land use and sustainability approaches in the Southeast U.S.   

Visitors to this website are encouraged to view the workshop presentations and synopses of the workshop breakout groups (see the “Presentations” tab above) as well as the background papers prepared for the workshop (see the “Read Ahead” tab above).  The Final Report summarizing the discussions and recommendations of the workshop is posted under the Outcomes tab of this web site.
